T-Mobile is benefiting from a major shift in how consumers choose internet services. The carrier’s 5G home internet service has surged in popularity as consumers nationwide stray away from traditional internet providers. In response, T-Mobile is rolling out a convenient new option designed to tackle a common customer frustration with home internet.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, T-Mobile added 495,000 new 5G home internet customers, 67,000 more than it added during the same quarter in 2024, according to the carrier’s most recent earnings report.

During an earnings call on Feb. 11, T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan revealed that since 2022, the company has seen 77% growth in 5G home internet customers, and it expects to have 15 million of these customers in 2030.

“The speed of evolution of mobile technology as we look forward convinces me that this category is going to have a lot more upside,” he said. “At this point in time, we can see line of sight to the 15 million, and that’s what we’ll go for by 2030.”

The rapid rise in demand for 5G home internet (also known as fixed wireless internet) comes as more consumers across the country are losing patience with rising internet bills as traditional internet providers implement price increases.

A survey from Reviews.org last year even found that 3 in 4 Americans have downgraded, canceled, or considered switching internet providers due to high prices.

Consumers have been flocking to 5G home internet services due to their affordability and availability in rural areas. Peter Holslin, managing editor at Reviews.org, said in a statement that 5G home internet “offers a lot of value” even though its speeds aren’t faster than fiber or cable internet.

“5G internet packages are typically sold at fixed rates, with no extra fees for installation or equipment, and you often get other perks too like unlimited data and bundle discounts when you pair it with a cell phone plan from the same provider,” said Holslin.

T-Mobile unveils convenient new option for 5G home internet customers

To meet rising demand for this service, T-Mobile has announced it is partnering with DoorDash to offer free same-day delivery of 5G Home Internet equipment to customers, a move that tackles the frustration of scheduling an installation appointment, waiting days for equipment to arrive, and visiting stores for assistance.

This new option, which will soon be available in most major cities, will appear in the T-Life app when customers sign up for the internet service. T-Mobile says customers can set up the equipment in 15 minutes and can also try it for 15 days risk-free.

The partnership with DoorDash is part of T-Mobile’s “Switching Made Easy” initiative, where it aims to make the switching experience for customers “faster, smarter and hassle-free,” done in 15 minutes or less within the T-Life app.

When the initiative was first unveiled in November, T-Mobile launched free same-day delivery via DoorDash for phones and accessories.

In addition to recently extending this service to 5G home internet customers, T-Mobile also introduced two additional offers to further lure them in.

The carrier is offering $20 in monthly savings when 5G home internet customers bundle their service with a T-Mobile voice plan. Also, if these customers upgrade to a Galaxy S26 device, they can receive a Samsung gift card worth up to $350.

T-Mobile navigates intensifying broadband competition

The move from T-Mobile comes as the carrier faces increased competition from growing rivals, with some beating it in consumer satisfaction in the broadband market, according to a recent CableTV.com survey.

The top five internet providers leading in consumer satisfaction:

  • Starlink leads the approval ratings with an 89% consumer satisfaction score.
  • Google Fiber and Ziply Fiber are tied at 87%.
  • Lumos received an 85% satisfaction rating.
  • T-Mobile earned a 78% score.

The dominance of fiber and 5G home internet providers, as well as the absence of cable TV providers on the list, wasn’t accidental, as more consumers prefer greater pricing flexibility and faster internet performance.

“Cable ISPs have long had a reputation for restrictive pricing contracts, annual bill hikes, and tacked-on fees,” wrote Eric Chiu, CableTV.com internet editor, in the survey. “Cable internet networks are still entrenched throughout much of the U.S., but between fiber’s growing footprint and aggressive 5G home internet marketing, consumers clearly know cable’s no longer the sole option in town.”
